Melby Beach, Shetland – A Quiet Haven for Waders
Melby Beach in Shetland offered a few peaceful days immersed in nature. We spent hours lying in the wet sand, working around bursts of rain and occasional sunshine, watching the shoreline come to life.
Small flocks of Sanderlings ran along the water’s edge, Dunlins foraged in the shallows, and Turnstones searched through seaweed with determination. Ringed Plovers moved carefully across the sand, blending in with the beach’s texture. Out on the water, Great Northern Divers appeared now and then—calm, steady, and always a little distant.
It’s the kind of place where you slow down and simply observe. The weather kept us on our toes, but the birds made every moment worth it.
