The Cuckoo

The cuckoo is one of Spain’s most intriguing springtime visitors, easily recognised by its distinctive two-note call. Though often heard more than seen, its presence signals the arrival of warmer days. Unlike most birds, the cuckoo lays its eggs in the nests of other species, leaving the unsuspecting hosts to raise its young. Capturing this elusive bird through the lens is always a thrill—each sighting feels like a small victory. And just when I thought the moment couldn’t get better, a striking hoopoe turned up nearby, adding even more excitement to an already unforgettable encounter. This gallery celebrates the elegance and mystery of the cuckoo, and the unexpected wonders that often come with watching wildlife.
